In order to effectively tackle food insecurity and mitigate the devastating impact of climate change on food crops production system in Africa, MoBreed and GENES programs in collaboration with the Integrated Genotyping Service and Support (IGSS) at BecA-ILRI (Nairobii, Kenya) organized a one-month intensive training for the PhD Scholars of both MoBreed and GENES projects currently schooling in various African Universities. This was aimed at exposing them to state of art laboratory facilities, equip them with current information on contemporary laboratory procedures and techniques on plant molecular analysis, and as well update their knowledge on Markers-Assisted planting breeding principles, through lectures that were delivered by world class resource researchers from various fields of molecular plant breeding, genetics and bioinformatics. The training unarguably met, if not surpassed its objective as the students were kept on their toes from 2nd to 27th September that it lasted, with intensive wet lab activities and mind illuminating lectures. Indeed, the training has equipped the scholars with the required information, skill and improved capacity not just to excellently complete their PhD research, but also to be able to fight the challenges confronting crops productivity and production system in Africa. Certificates and book of the Business of Plant Breeding were delivered to the trainees at the end of the workshop.
